I don’t know where I first heard this statement, but it hasbeen apart of my walk with Christ: ‘if
you want to know God’s will for your life, keep searching.’ That may seem odd, but the reality of my life
is that I never quite arrive at His will. Sure there are markers where you know for sure that the step you just
made was God’s will, but if you stayed in that one spot you would not see what
God’s next plan is.
For the last few days I have been reading in the book of I
Samuel. The last few chapters of this
book read like an ‘action’ novel. David
kills Goliath, finds favor in the King’s court, then the King becomes jealous
and David has to flee for His life. While David is on the run there are many scriptures that demonstrate his
reliance on God. Here are some of those
statements: ‘Lord, should I go and
attack?’ ‘…Lord what should I do.’ ‘…Lord, please tell me.’ He was searching
for what God wanted him to do. Then there is this powerful statement that David
made in chapter 24: “He (God) is my advocate, and He will rescue me…”
None of us really face the reality of being pursued by
someone wanting to kill us, however, some of our problems or decisions seem
that big, that daunting. I can testify
that God will give the answers in His time, but He desires for us to seek Him,
to continually seek Him. So if I want to
know what God’s will for my life is…I keep looking, searching for God…in His
word, through my cries to Him and in my moments of silence in His presence.
God can be new and fresh to us each day if we keep looking.
