I am afraid to count the number of books on my shelves under the topic of leadership. There have been many of these books that I have read with a highlighter in hand marking the points I would like to easily access in the future. I thought Mastering the Rockefeller Habits by Verne Harnish would be a book in that category; however, I did not even pick up a highlighter. If I had had a highlighter in my hand I am afraid that the next time I look through its contents all I would see is yellow.
Without a doubt this book is one of the most practical ones I have read as it relates to leading and organizing a business, for-profit or non-profit. Many of the topics that Verne Harnish covers have been written about hundreds of times by other authors, but what makes Mastering the Rockefeller Habits unique is the practical approach he takes to explain how to implement theory.
In this book Verne Harnish guides the reader through practical approaches of how to define vision and core values all the way down to how to manage a team on a day to day basis. Throughout the book I was pleasantly surprised at all the resources that Harnish gives and examples of how the resources can be used.
I made no attempt to highlight sections in this book; however, Mastering the Rockefeller Habits will be given a prominent place on my desk because I plan to reference it often. The simple layout and clarity of each chapter will allow me to do so without extensive searching.
