It Was Simple for Him
The job seemed simple. We had all the materials and detailed instructions, but after more than two hours the task had done us in. Only about 1/6 of the task was completed and it was not done very well. The job was simple for him. He showed up looked at the task and said, yes he could do it.
With skepticism we stood back and said; ‘sure you can.’
But in less than an hour the rest of the job was done…it was simple for him.
Why?
- He had been trained.
- He had the right equipment.
- He had experience.
Lesson learned.
You can get great people to be on your team. They can have high levels of Character, fit and interact great in the Culture (chemistry) of the organization, and if you get those two right you can train for better Competency of task.
The task we approached was simple, our team had high ‘character’ and fit ‘culturally,’ however we did not have the skill level (competency). We possessed the basic skills that could have been refined but I sure am glad that for this task we found someone we didn’t have to train.
