My Goal for 2018
How many times have you been headed out to dinner with your spouse or friends and the question arises: where do you want to eat? A simple question can easily lead to an extended conversation.
You've been there:
Where do you want to eat? I don't know where do you want to eat? How about _____? No, I had that last night? Well, then you pick. No, I don't want to pick, you pick? And it keeps going...
Everyone in the group had good intentions. They wanted to be with friends, they wanted to go out to eat. The problem was it was just good 'intentions.' No, one wanted to make a decision and take a step toward the destination.
We can have a great plan (Intention) to read fifteen books in the new year, but until we buy the first book and begin reading (Direction) we will not reach our goal (Destination).
We may decide (Intention) to plant new scrubs at our house, but until we buy them (Direction) we will not ever get them in the ground (Destination).
Discussion and indecision about where we want to eat may not be a life-changing event, but you can set some goals that will be life-changing.
Intention: what goals are you setting for 2018?
Direction: what's the first step you are taking to meet the goal?
Destination: There can be a celebration in your future...a goal accomplished.
Remember: Direction NOT Intention, Determines Destination.
I am in the process of refining some goals for 2018. Some of them will be simple to accomplish, others not so much. But none of them will be accomplished until I take the first step.
Do you set goals for each year?
How do you make sure you get them started or move toward accomplishment?
